Emerson Appoints Director of Rosemount Analytical Homeland Security Products

Dec. 3, 2004

Emerson Process Management expanded its commitment to water safety with the appointment of Richard Baril to the position of director of Rosemount Analytical homeland security products. In his new position, Baril will oversee all aspects of manufacturing, quality control, engineering and delivery of the popular Rosemount Analytical multiparameter, "real world" water quality monitoring solutions.

According to Baril, "Keeping water quality systems safe is a national priority. But today it's a complicated job. Aging infrastructure and outmoded analyzers complicate prevention of waterborne disease in many water plants, making detection of serious contamination difficult. It's our job to provide solutions that are not only effective, but also realistic and can be implemented quickly with the budgets, level of manpower and expertise available to most water processing plants today. That's Emerson's commitment and it's mine."

In this new position, Baril reports directly to John Wright, vice president of marketing for Emerson Process Management's Rosemount Analytical business. Wright stated, "There isn't a better person for this job than Richard. His background in biochemistry and microbiology, combined with 26 years of experience in water quality engineering, makes him a true leader in the field. He is a dedicated professional."

Baril is on the board of directors of the International Ozone Association, and is an active member of the American Water Works Association and the Instrument Society of America. He is certified in homeland security by the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute. He lectures on water quality and homeland security across the country and has published several articles on these topics. He most recently participated in the Asia-Pacific Homeland Security Summit.

Baril added, "The demand for our water quality monitoring solutions has truly driven the creation of a virtual 'company within a company' so that we can deliver the kind of products our government and industry require. I'm honored to have been chosen to head this enterprise for Emerson."
