Senior Research Analyst Receives American Water's Leadership Award

Lauren Weinrich has been selected for the Leadership Development Award from the Younger Chemist Committee (YCC) of the American Chemical Society (ACS)

American Water, a water and wastewater utility company, announced Lauren Weinrich, senior research analyst in the Innovation & Environmental Stewardship department, has been selected to receive a Leadership Development Award from the Younger Chemist Committee (YCC) of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Weinrich was selected for her past contributions and leadership qualities.

The YCC program recognizes emerging leaders in the profession and helps them prepare for the leadership opportunities at volunteer organizations, such as ACS, and in their professional careers.  This award will support Lauren’s participation in the YCC Leadership Development Workshop, Jan. 23- 25 in Dallas, Texas.

Weinrich began her career at the School of Public Health – Environmental Sciences and Engineering at UNC – Chapel Hill. Since then, she has held several positions – all relating to her interest in research. Weinrich is a Ph.D. candidate in environmental engineering at Drexel University. She has her master’s degree in environmental sciences from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Marymount University, where she graduated cum laude.

Weinrich has served as the co-president for Young Technology Leader – Transatlantic Program of the Water Management delegation for the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest.

She was recently recognized as a "Young Technology Leader" by this organization and was one of only 12 delegates selected following an intense three-week application and screening process.

Weinrich was sent to explore Germany as the worldwide leading exporter of sustainable water technologies.

Weinrich also serves as chair of the Standard Methods Joint Task Group; Section 9217 Assimilable Organic Carbon and is a member of the American Chemical Society where she has served as a member of the Young Chemists Council for the past two years.

Additionally, she has served as a member of the Organic Contaminant Research Committee, the Distribution System Water Quality Committee, and the Project Advisory Committee for the Water Research Foundation Project 4241 “Advanced Oxidation and Transformation of Organic Contaminants.”

Weinrich has been the author or co-author on several papers, some of which have appeared in peer-reviewed journals and national trade publications. She has been a speaker at several conferences and seminars where she portrays her extensive research knowledge to keep all sectors of the drinking water industry better informed.
