Bell & Gossett Expands Interactive Website

New video case study features heat exchange project at National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Xylem’s Bell & Gossett (B&G) brand announced that it has expanded the content on its Bell and Gossett Solves It (BGSI) website. BGSI is an interactive site that features B&G projects and product information, and serves as an educational tool for customers and other industry professionals.

“The BGSI website enables us to share the customer success stories and advanced products and technologies that make buildings more efficient,” said Mark Handzel, vice president, Product Regulatory Affairs, and director, HVAC & Commercial Buildings, Xylem.

New content was recently added to the site, including a video case study highlighting an installation that took place at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo. NREL worked with Bell & Gossett and other partners to capture heat from supercomputers in its new 182,500-sq-ft Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF). The project used a hydronic system to cool the NREL’s supercomputers and heat exchangers to capture the waste heat and transfer it to other parts of the building.

More than 55 Bell & Gossett products were used in the project, including the e-1510 centrifugal pumps, Series 90 pumps, Series 80 pumps, Series 60 pumps and GPX plate and frame heat exchangers.

According to the NREL, the ESIF consumes 74% less energy than the national average for office buildings and saves about $1 million a year in energy costs. The ESIF has received LEED platinum certification and has a power use effectiveness (PUE) of 1.06, compared to the industry average of 1.7 to 1.8.

“This project was the first time waste heat from supercomputers was used to supply heat to a building. It was an honor to work with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on such a groundbreaking effort,” said Handzel. “Case studies like this and others on the BGSI website show how Bell & Gossett’s highly efficient products and advanced portfolio can be used to conserve energy and save money. We hope this information inspires others to seek creative ways to improve energy and water efficiency.”
