IBWA Provides Consumers with Holiday Hydration Tips
Along with the festivities surrounding the holiday season, Americans typically adopt New Years resolutions that will help them lead a healthier life. These resolutions tend to center around health--diet, exercise, quitting smoking and cutting down on alcohol. One of the best ways to increase your energy supply for exercise while helping the body metabolize fat and avoid dehydration is to make a New Years resolution to drink at least eight eight-ounce servings of water each day.
With its consistent safety, high quality and good taste, bottled water is the perfect way to consume more water throughout the day and uphold your resolution. Water plays a critical role in almost every bodily function, and Americans need to remain at their best throughout the year. Some consumers may not realize it, but bottled water is not just a summer drink. One reason is that winter is prime season for dehydration. The colder it is outside, the harder your body must work to maintain proper body temperature--and that extra energy requires more water.
"Even though most people know the positive effects of water, they dont drink it often enough. Drinking water is an easy thing to do, its just a matter of betting into the habit," says Stephen Kay, International Bottled Water Association vice President of Communications. "With all New Years resolutions that are difficult to maintain, Americans can feel confident that drinking more water is a resolution they know they can and should keep."
IBWA has developed a few "Holiday Hydration Tips" to keep you, your family and friends at your peak during the winter holiday season and help you sustain your New Years resolution:
*Take a bottle of water with you when skiing, ice-skating or shoveling snow; water will help you stay warm because it helps regulate your body temperature;
*Replace high-calorie drinks such as eggnog or alcohol with a glass of sparking water with a twist OR cut the calories by creating a wine spritzer--half wine, half sparking water;
*Serve a refreshing holiday punch by combining sparkling water with fruit punch and fruit garnish;
*Provide bottled water for guests and designated drivers as an alternative to alcohol when entertaining.
