Five of seven received highest NACWA honor, Platinum Peak Performance Award

For more than two decades, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) has received perfect scores on annual reports submitted to the National Assn. of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). Five of seven MWRD treatment facilities have received the Platinum Peak Performance Award, the highest NACWA honor.

These awards recognize exceptional performance under National Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements and federal Clean Water Act standards. The MWRD has received platinum peak performance honors for as many as 20 consecutive years of 100% compliance.

“Congratulations on this extraordinary accomplishment,” said Kelly A. Brocato, NACWA director of Membership Development. “Your commitment to excellence in environmental protection is outstanding.”

“This is a great honor for our district, our facilities, our certified operators and all employees who work hard everyday to protect the area waterways,” said Board President Terrence J. O’Brien. “All Cook County residents can be proud of these achievements.”

Awards were presented during a July 16 ceremony at NACWA’s 2012 Summer Conference and 42nd annual meeting in Philadelphia. As a multiyear platinum honoree, the five facilities were highlighted in a video presentation.
