Rabun Labs was established in 1989 with the introduction of active lightning protection systems. These Equipment Protection Systems detect lightning and can automatically start standby generators, etc., while the storm is a safe distance away. The GM/MS, Ground Monitoring & Maintenance System continuously monitors the resistivity of the earth in the area where a ground rod or system is located. When the resistivity of the soil drops below a site-selected set-point, the GM/MS activates a solenoid valve and gently soaks the area where the electrical ground rod or system is located until the soil resistivity is below the set-point, then shuts off.....automatically maintaining the elec
