Itron, Inc., a company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced that it has completed the modernization of Jerusalem Water Undertaking’s (JWU) water system infrastructure. A non-profit, independent, civil organization in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate of Palestine, JWU is using Itron’s AMI-ready, volumetric water meters to accurately and reliably deliver water to residential customers and reduce apparent non-revenue water losses in its system.

Itron Inc. announced that the city of North Miami Beach, Fla.’s water utility, which serves 170,000 water customers in Northern Miami-Dade County, has selected Itron to help modernize its water distribution system and recover lost water. The utility will use Itron’s advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), leak detection solution and cloud-based analytics to more effectively manage the delivery of water resources, reduce non-revenue water and conserve resources.

Itron Inc. announced that Apa Nova Bucureşti, the largest water utility in Romania serving two million customers, selected Itron to help modernize its water metering system. Over the next four years, Apa Nova Bucureşti will install Itron’s water meters for high-use customers and multifamily buildings, which will allow the utility to better manage and conserve water resources.
Itron Inc. announced a new alliance with i2O Water. The collaboration will expand Itron’s water portfolio and round out its non-revenue water (NRW) offering. i2O’s technology helps minimize non-revenue water by reducing physical water losses in the distribution network.
Itron Inc. signed a four-year contract to supply water meters to Evides Waterbedrijf, water supplier to 2.5 million customers in the Western Netherlands. The utility will use Itron’s AMI-ready volumetric water meters to accurately and reliably manage water delivery to residential customers.
The city of Bismarck, N.D.’s water department will manage its water distribution system using the Itron network deployed by Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. (MDU), a provider of electric and natural gas service to parts of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Itron Inc. will collaborate with OSIsoft LLC to enable data sharing between their solutions by integrating OSIsoft’s PI System, real-time infrastructure for streaming data and events, with Itron Analytics, an analytics application providing business intelligence. The integration is designed to enable water utilities to analyze performance of the distribution network in real-time. Integration work is expected to be complete by the end of 2014.
Itron Inc. announced that Malta’s Water Services Corp., water provider to 400,000 residents and more than one million annual tourists in the Mediterranean’s island of Malta, has expanded its contract with Itron as a part of Malta’s nationwide water grid. The utility has successfully installed 120,000 Itron smart water meters and has signed a contract for an additional 33,000. The meters, as part of the smart water grid program, and are helping increase operational efficiency and improve customer service.
Itron Inc. announced that Saudi Arabia’s National Water Co. (NWC) is installing Itron’s water technology to help the city of Jeddah conserve water resources. Itron meters and communication modules will enable NWC to measure water consumption more accurately, helping the utility and its customers better utilize the country’s scarce water resources.
Itron Inc. announced the release of the first-ever “Itron Resourcefulness Index,” a global survey of the state of the utility industry.
The survey finds the industry at a critical tipping point, with 94% of utility executives believing the industry needs to be transformed and 80% of consumers dissatisfied with the current amount of information they are receiving from their utility. The findings highlight the need for utilities to do more to achieve operational efficiencies and to take a more active role in educating consumers about energy and water use.
Itron Inc. announced that Cleveland Water was the recipient of Itron’s 15 millionth water communication module. The water utility is more than halfway through its deployment of Itron’s smart metering solution, with 220,000 of its 425,000 water communication modules installed. The modules and associated Itron advanced metering infrastructure are part of Cleveland Water’s Clear Reads program, which aims to deliver improved customer service and efficiency.
Gartner Inc has positioned Itron Inc.’s meter data management (MDM) solution in the “Leaders” quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Meter Data Management Products, moving the company from its previous position in the “Challengers” quadrant.
Itron Inc. announced that City of Baltimore (Md.)’s board of estimates has awarded Itron the contract for its advanced metering infrastructure and water meter system installation program. The program will upgrade the city of Baltimore and Baltimore County’s water metering infrastructure with the goal of improving customer service and billing accuracy for all of the bureau’s water customers. Baltimore City’s Bureau of Water and Wastewater is the supplier of water to 1.8 million people in the Baltimore Metro Area.
