Robert Stillwell operated San Marcos Wastewater Treatment Plant during two worst floods on record

On Sunday, Feb. 28, CH2M employee Robert “Bobby” Stillwell, lead operator at the San Marcos Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) received the Operator of the Year Award from the Texas Water Utilities Assn. Stillwell was nominated in the category of municipalities serving a population of 30,000 to 60,000 people.

The Operator of the Year Award is offered to recognize water and/or wastewater operators who have shown themselves to be worthy of recognition during 2015.

As lead operator, Stillwell has operated the San Marcos WWTP during the two worst floods on record while working tirelessly to meet the demands of one of the state’s most stringent Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) permits. He and his colleagues are also responsible for significantly reducing nutrient loading on the San Marcos River as well as supporting a growing reclaimed water system, which sustains local industry, parks and Texas State University.

“We are proud of the work Bobby does for CH2M and the residents of San Marcos. He goes to great lengths for his teammates and colleagues, who are responsible for nominating him for this award,” said CH2M Project Manager Paul Shropshire.
