Black & Veatch Wins Two Environmental Business Achievement Awards
Company earned Organizational Innovation and Project Merit awards
Black & Veatch, a global engineering, consulting and construction company, was honored with two 2007 Environmental Business Achievement Awards from the Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) during a recent ceremony in San Diego.
The company earned an Organizational Innovation award for its work in successfully implementing its Integrated Global Workforce concept and a Project Merit award for its role in assisting the city of Kansas City, Mo., in implementing the comprehensive stormwater management initiative KC-ONE for the city of Kansas City.
Each year EBJ recognizes companies and executives for outstanding achievements in the preservation and protection of the environment.
Black & Veatch won the Organizational Innovation award for aligning its global water business to provide world-class experience and solutions at a local level. “Our integrated global workforce allows Black & Veatch to move the right resources to the right places anywhere in the world in order to support projects and new business opportunities,” said Dan McCarthy, President and CEO of Black & Veatch’s global water business.
For example, Black & Veatch expanded its operations in locations that include Mumbai, Singapore, Hong Kong, the U.K. and U.S. In addition, Black & Veatch has established global practice and technology leaders within its water business to ensure that the company’s reputation for technical leadership continues to grow across the world.
Black & Veatch was awarded the Project Merit award for its collaboration with the city of Kansas City, Mo., in implementing an expansive stormwater management program. Through this initiative the city identified approximately 1,000 projects to help upgrade its drainage system. It also established the KC-ONE project to help create the tools needed for the initiative and to rally community and stakeholder support behind it.
“Black & Veatch developed a strategic funding and implementation plan to provide the resources to make the KC-ONE capital improvements program successful,” McCarthy said. “This platform allowed the city of Kansas City to reach out to the community in order to identify the priorities, needs and goals of its residents.”
In addition to improving water quality, the stormwater project successfully created community recreational areas. An automated best management practices locator also was adopted.
