Black & Veatch Leaders Take Key Posts with WEF, AWWA

Oct. 19, 2009
Matt Bond is vice president for WEF, Joe Mantua is president-elect for AWWA

Black & Veatch professionals are now serving in leadership positions with two key water organizations in the U.S. Matt Bond assumed the vice president’s role for the Water Environment Federation (WEF) on Oct. 13, 2009, and Joe Mantua is currently in the president-elect role with the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

“Having two professionals serving as officers in these organizations speaks to the quality and leadership ability of Black & Veatch professionals,” said Dan McCarthy, president and CEO of Black & Veatch’s global water business. “Volunteer-led organizations, like WEF and AWWA, are becoming an even more important resource for our industry, so it’s a unique opportunity for Joe and Matt to lead the two pre-eminent water organizations in the United States.”

Bond begins his officer rotation with WEF as vice president and will become president-elect in 2010. In 2011, Bond will serve as WEF president. He’ll seek to improve the organization through investing its volunteer and monetary resources in areas where WEF can have the most effect in advancing its strategic objectives. Several of those specific areas include effective utility management, public communication and an increasing emphasis on watershed-based approaches to water quality improvements, Bond said.

As president-elect, Mantua will take the reigns as AWWA president in 2010. He began his term as AWWA president-elect in June. During his presidential progression, Mantua said he hopes to strengthen relationships with partnering organizations and continue with the implementation of several ongoing initiatives, including developing a process for the prioritization of programs and services.

Both Bond and Mantua each have more than a quarter century of experience in the water and wastewater engineering field and decades of involvement in the national and state organizations of WEF and AWWA, respectively.
