Bio-Microbics Receives Presidential Award for Exports

May 18, 2016
Award is highest recognition U.S. entity can receive for making significant contribution to expansion of U.S. exports

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker presented Bio-Microbics Inc. with the President’s “E Star” Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, DC.  The President’s “E Star” Award (having received the “E” Award four years prior for eligibility) is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. Bio-Microbics was the only Kansas company to receive an "E Star" Award this year, joining 21 other companies across the country who met an eight-year export growth threshold.

“Bio-Microbics has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The "E" Awards Committee was very impressed with Bio-Microbics' utilization of multiple export markets to support growth and stability for the company,” said Secretary Pritzker in her congratulatory letter to the company announcing its selection as an award recipient.  “The company's creative use of scholarly and graduate-level students’ skills to support market research was also particularly notable. Bio-Microbics' achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs.”

Bio-Microbics was established on April 18, 1996 for the purpose to manufacture decentralized treatment systems and focus on better water management. Bio-Microbics now has more than 60,000 installed systems in operation and is committed to further develop close partnerships with its global distributor network in over 70 countries to strengthen the business, while providing environmental technologies and accelerating the growth of the onsite wastewater market.

In addition to its distributor representation, Bio-Microbics has three manufacturing facilities in Shawnee, Kan.; St. Louis, Mo., (Scienco/FAST); and Portland, Maine (SeptiTech) for the production of four different types of wastewater treatment technologies, water treatment systems, and storm water filtration devices. The company also markets a line of environmentally friendly maintenance cleaners, detergents, descalers and bacteria tablets called Mighty Mike.

“We are honored to be recognized for our exporting activities,” said Bob Rebori, president of Bio-Microbics Inc. “Most importantly, we are pleased to play a role in providing environmental technologies and wastewater treatment systems for homes, small communities, marine and commercial properties around the world. With our global distributor network, Bio-Microbics has worked diligently to market creatively and help the businesses in these countries succeed with our products.”

In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. Secretary Pritzker honored 123 U.S. companies with the President’s “E” Award for their outstanding work to reduce barriers to foreign markets and to open the door to more trade around the world.

In 2015, U.S. exports totaled $2.23 trillion, accounting for nearly 13% of U.S. GDP. Nationally, exports contributed to the U.S. economy, supporting an estimated 11.5 million jobs.

U.S. companies are nominated for the “E” Awards through the Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service office network, located within the Department’s International Trade Administration, with offices in 108 U.S. cities and more than 70 countries.  Record years of successive export growth and an applicant’s demonstration of an innovative international marketing plan that led to the increase in exports is a significant factor in selecting the winners.
