American Water to Assist Winslow Township with Water Supply

Jan. 17, 2007

New Jersey American Water, will begin work this week on a 10-mile extension of its existing regional pipeline to serve the growing water supply needs of Winslow Township in lower Camden County. The contract will provide Winslow with 1.5 million gal of water a day was approved unanimously by the town council in June 2006.

Installation of the new pipeline and two pressure boosting stations are necessary to meet the water supply needs of Winslow Township while improving water pressure for current customers.

The new transmission main will extend from Springdale Road in Cherry Hill through Voorhees Township, Berlin Township, and Waterford Township before reaching Winslow Township. This pipeline will be fed with potable water from New Jersey American Water’s Delaware River Regional Water Treatment Plant in Delran, N.J.

“Building for future population and economic growth is one of the urgent priorities of the country’s water systems and much of that work will be accomplished through public-private partnerships such as our work with Winslow Township,” said Donald L. Correll, president and CEO of American Water, the parent company of New Jersey American Water. “Winslow is drawing on the expertise and skill of our company and in doing so they are avoiding having to tackle this project alone.”

“Providing this type of regional solution to meet local requirements is exactly what we strive for,” said Walter Lynch, president of New Jersey American Water. “Winslow has an immediate need and because of the Delaware River Regional Water Treatment Plant and Regional Transmission system, we are able to help them address that need.”

The new main is expected to be in service by the late spring of 2007.
