Aclara Technologies LLC announced it has won a Gold Connected World Award in the Utilities category for implementing machine-to-machine (M2M) technology in its STAR Network system.
The Connected World Awards honor the companies that have successfully leveraged M2M to solve a critical problem within their businesses, all with quantifiable results. Aclara worked with Multi-Tech Systems to implement M2M data collection technology for backhaul cellular communications within Aclara’s STAR Network, which is scalable for utilities of all sizes and delivers secure and accurate meter data on an hourly basis.
“Implementing M2M technology through Multi-Tech eliminates the delay in adopting the latest cellular technologies, allowing us to upgrade our cellular-based products faster,” said Cynthia Daugherty, Aclara’s STAR Network product manager. “We can meet customer requirements effectively and at a lower cost than with previous technologies.”
"The 2014 award winners honored this year are a combination of large and small companies, representing a range of industries and applications,” said Peggy Smedley, editorial director, Connected World magazine. “Solutions were implemented for GPS, car sharing, and even concrete-management systems. This is a testament to the growth of the vertical markets and acceptance of the technology within those various segments.”
The Connected World Awards emphasize the process of creating a winning solution by combining multiple technologies, such as device, connectivity, hardware, radio modules, network service and provisioning, as well as application software and infrastructure. Award winners were announced during the 2014 Chicago Auto Show.
