Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, who is leading a group of Texas mayors in building support for vital new watering restrictions, will share his leadership insights with elected and appointed officials June 12 at the American Water Works Assn. Public Officials Breakfast and Caucus, part of  AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE12) in Dallas.

The Breakfast and Caucus – free to registered public officials – is part of a public officials program that also includes 12 hours of certificate training and a peer networking reception. All public officials events at ACE12 will take place in the Dallas Convention Center.

The specialized public officials programming is part of the larger ACE12, the longest running water conference in the world. Public officials can also choose from more than 500 technical presentations at the broader conference and see the latest technology solutions from several hundred exhibitors.

“Mayor Rawlings’ leadership on water conservation demonstrates the positive impact that informed elected officials can have on managing our water resources and systems,” said AWWA Executive Director David LaFrance. “The public officials who attend ACE12 will be better equipped to make decisions that benefit their water utility customers.”

ACE12 public officials events include:

  • Public Officials Breakfast and Caucus (8 -11:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, Rooms D171-173, Dallas Convention Center):Following Dallas Mayor Rawlings’ address, public officials will hear about AWWA’s new report, “Buried No Longer: Confronting America’s Water Infrastructure Challenge,” and learn about proposed legislation to address infrastructure needs. They will also have an opportunity to raise issues from their own communities and share experiences in addressing them.
  • Public Officials Certificate Program (1-5 p.m., June 10-12, Room D172, Dallas Convention Center): For the fourth year, public officials registered at ACE12 will have an opportunity to earn the AWWA Public Officials’ Certificate by participating in three 4-hour courses June 10, 11 and 12.  Content for the June 12 course, “Planning and Funding Your Capital Infrastructure” is entirely new, allowing those who have already earned the certificate an opportunity to further expand their knowledge. Courses 1 and 2, to be held June 10 and 11, are “Introduction to Water and Sewer Operating Environments” and “Water and Sewer Infrastructure, Operation and Maintenance.” Renowned water educator Frederick Bloetscher, Ph.D., P.E., author of Water Basics for Decision Makers, will teach the courses.
  • Public Officials Reception (5-6 p.m., Monday, June 11, Ballroom D Foyer, Mezzanine Level, Dallas Convention Center): Public officials will have an opportunity to discuss common concerns and share ideas in a relaxed setting during this networking event.
