Sliplining The City of Pittsburgh is in the process of a renaissance. Builders must raze the old to make way for the new. In the spring of 1997, the City of Pittsburgh imploded an old building in the center of the downtown shopping district and built the new Lazarus department store. The store’s main entrance is located on 5th Avenue, Pittsburgh’s main retail street. Oliver Avenue, the street adjacent to the new building, is the location of the main water line feeding the new building as well as several adjoining structures.
