2013 AHR Expo Innovation Awards Competition Recognizes Two Danfoss Products

Dec. 12, 2012
Integrated rack controller wins refrigeration category & variable speed compressor earns honorable mention in cooling category

A panel of ASHRAE members has recognized two Danfoss products—the ADAP-KOOL AK-PC 781 integrated rack controller and the VZH Variable Speed Compressor—in the 2013 AHR Expo Innovation Awards competition. This marks the eleventh and twelfth times in ten years that Danfoss products have been honored, including back-to-back Product of the Year awards in 2009 (Apexx VSH) and 2010 (Performer VSD).

“It is exciting for us to be recognized in two categories this year,” said John Galyen, president of Danfoss North America. “These newest awards build upon the Danfoss legacy of technological leadership and innovation.”

The AK-PC 781 was named the winner in the refrigeration category.

“What is unique about this offering is that the advanced algorithms of the ADAP KOOL 781 controller optimize four control systems: compressor, oil management, high-pressure and heat recovery,” said Mads Jorgensen, project manager at Danfoss. “This saves energy and also harvests refrigeration heat without compromising food safety, which are two of the most important requirements our customers face in the food retail industry.”

The VZH variable speed compressor received honorable mention in the cooling category. The compressor delivers dynamic efficiency and performance in varied air-conditioning applications, including VRF, chillers, rooftop, packaged or split systems, IT, process cooling units and dedicated outdoor units, while providing precise temperature and humidity management. It features a 4:1 turndown ratio and provides the largest cooling capacity (26TR) with a single scroll and up to 56TR in an innovative tandem design.

2013 AHR Expo Innovation Awards recognize the most creative, effective and ingenious HVACR products and technologies on the market. The annual competition is jointly sponsored by the AHR Expo, ASHRAE and the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). Winners are chosen in each of 10 product categories based on innovation, value and impact on the market and will be honored at a special ceremony during the 2013 AHR Expo in Dallas on Jan. 29.
